HISTORY
Bultaco Vs. Montesa
Two Spaniards, the wealthy engineer Pedro Permanyer and the successful motorcycle racer Paco Bulto came together through friend-and-family connections in the aftermath of the Second World War to create Montesa. They agreed to design and build a Spanish two stroke motorcycle. And they did exactly that.
However, as the story goes, Pedro Permanyer (Montesa) wanted to pull out of all competition in an effort to cut costs. Paco Bultó (co-founder) wasn’t having it, so he walked. In May 1958 Bultaco was born with a deliberate focus on racing and in direct competition with Montesa. They went on to build absolute weapons. Depending on who you ask the “Thumbs up” logo has multiple meanings.

This 250 Bultaco Pursang also known as the MK8 is a handling dream. Due to its super light frame the MK8 is extremely responsive to body position and movement. The gusset, swinging arm and entire frame are made from chrome moly. One cool feature about the MK8 is that the rear hub is reversible. The brake drum can be placed either on the same side as the sprocket or on the opposite side. This, of course, works with the shift shaft that runs completely through the cases, allowing the rider his choice as to which side to shift on and which side to place the brake pedal on. One of the reasons for the change was that some Bultaco people felt that sales were being lost to customers who were graduating from a left-shift Japanese bike and didn’t want to have to relearn shifting reflexes.

JTR
We ride, race and restore vintage motorcycles. Every single bike we buy and sell, we personally go through. My father Chris Reed, born in ‘59 has been racing and repairing these bikes since they were new. He had me on a JR50 at 4 years old and I cut my teeth on race tracks around the United States. I eventually sharpened my craft working under the wing of Peter Boggia (Moto Borgotaro) where I serviced and restored some of the rarest motorcycles on the planet.
I believe these bikes should go to people who will love, and appreciate them. You’re not just buying a bike from us, you’re supporting a brand that is deeply committed to celebrating these badass machines and preserving the vintage racing community.
