HISTORY

In ‘77 the YZ125 had so much horsepower and mid-range torque, that the motorcycle racing press agreed it could out-pull, out-handle and out-win just about anything in its class.

Well for 1978 it came packed in the same kind of frame you usually only see on factory team racing bikes: chrome-moly steel. With thin-wall chrome-moly you get more strength for less weight. But the frame is just the beginning of the handling package. The box-section aluminum swing arm is longer than before. This gives you the double benefit of greater rear wheel travel and accurate high-speed running. And since long travel suspension requires a chain tensioner, the new 125 got fitted with the latest.

For the engine, it cranked out even more horsepower and matched the close ratio 6-speed transmission to the power band. With a compact power-plant in a tough new frame, the YZ125 weighs 6 pounds less than before. The 1978 YZ125 can handle anything you can dream up. When you know how they're built, you'll buy a Yamaha.

JTR

We ride, race and restore vintage motorcycles. Every single bike we buy and sell, we personally go through. My father Chris Reed, born in ‘59 has been racing and repairing these bikes since they were new. He had me on a JR50 at 4 years old and I cut my teeth on race tracks around the United States. I eventually sharpened my craft working under the wing of Peter Boggia (Moto Borgotaro) where I serviced and restored some of the rarest motorcycles on the planet.

I believe these bikes should go to people who will love, and appreciate them. You’re not just buying a bike from us, you’re supporting a brand that is deeply committed to celebrating these badass machines and preserving the vintage racing community.
